Merge Games is a global video game publisher, developer, and distributor based near Manchester, UK. The company publishes and distributes games worldwide for PC, consoles, and streaming platforms, including Dead Cells, Streets of Rage 4, Spirit of the North, Cloudpunk, Aragami, and Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX. Merge is also developing its own survival game, Smalland, in-house. In 2021, Merge Games was acquired by Sweden-based Zordix AB (publ.)

About the Role

This posting is for an experienced Porter / Co-developer role to work on a range of spectacular upcoming titles. 

These projects require a co-developer who will work closely with Merge Games’ Production team. This role will consist of porting in development and development of complete projects for different gaming platforms and at times, supporting and advising Merge’s external porting partners. As the Porter / Co-developer, you would be responsible for creating functional, compliant, and optimized builds for specified platforms. 

This role can be salary or contract based, with an initial opening of 6-12 months. Renewal/extension is very likely depending on output. The successful applicant would be working full-time, remote working is negotiable for the right applicant. 

 

Applicant requirements

  • Intimate knowledge of Unity Game engine

  • At least 1 year’s experience working with co-developing / porting games made with the Unity game engine

  • Must have full life cycle porting or console development experience on all current platforms and SDK tools. (PS5, Xbox One, XBX|S, Nintendo Switch)

  • Experience with additional platforms (eg. EPIC, Amazon Luna) is a plus.

Ideal Skills

  • Understanding of providing builds suitable for physical retail 

  • Understanding of video game QA process and reporting tools 

  • Understanding of code submission compliance on major platforms 

  • Operational understanding of major platforms, including XBX|S and PS5 

The perfect applicant

  • 5+ years in the industry

  • Previously held a senior/lead role in the same field

  • Experience with / working knowledge of procedural tools such as Houdini 

  • Working knowledge of GitHub application and source control best practice

  • Possesses hardware for all current platforms, including Switch, PS4, PS5, XB1 and XBX|S
